Event: “What are Universities For?”

There’s an event in the upcoming Aye Write book festival that might be relevant to readers of this blog. Professor Stefan Collini will be promoting his new book, What are Universities For?, by holding a discussion with Iain MacWhirter. Professor Collini has written quite a few articles on this subject for the London Review of Books: judging by these, his take on the issue will be at odds with the conventional wisdom, and forthrightly expressed. Mr MacWhirter is a columnist for the Herald and the current Rector of Edinburgh University.

The event will be on Saturday 17 March at the Mitchell Library, and should interest anyone with an interest in the state and the future of universities across the UK…
