For those of you doing final-year projects, today’s comic on xkcd provides the best short explanation I’ve seen of why your supervisor makes so much fuss if you borrow “facts” from Wikipedia. (The second-best explanation I’ve seen was provided by a department Christmas quiz a few years ago, when in order to prove a point a member of staff logged in to Wikipedia and temporarily relocated Malta to somewhere near Greenland. Allegedly.)

(Please note that xkcd contains a mixture of highly geeky and occasionally “adult” humour: the comic I’ve linked to is perfectly safe, but don’t blame me if anything else on the site offends you!)
